GADDAFI’S CABINET

Background

Gaddafi was a leader who has had a lasting impact on the history of Northern Africa. He has changed the political and social situations in Libya. By his decisions and actions in the past, the current conditions are still being affected and the period of his potency is still causing controversial situations. As Gaddafi is one of the most influential leaders of the 20th and 21st centuries, with his attitude and strict political stance, interior or exterior, his whole political and military life occupies an important position in the formation of today’s North African and Arabian politics that’s why his governing period and his implementations that they decided with his cabinet still maintain their importance and they are still the most chosen agenda item in academic debates about Northern Africa.

Gaddafi has obtained his power and preponderance in politics with tackling down the king of Libya without bloodshed at his very young age, 27, he ruled his country for 42 years. He stated his target as strengthening the Arabs and Africans within solidarity and in this way, he followed the ideologies such as Arab nationalism, African nationalism and partly by the principles of direct democracy. In his youth, he was a devotee of Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser who was an Arab nationalist that had a socialist idea. That is why he adopted socialism but he was against to some principles of socialism, which contradict with Islam, so he had an aim to change these principles and make Islamic socialism
dominant over Libyan administration. In 2011, the world has witnessed the collapse of Gaddafi after the uprisings against him in Libya.

SOBILMUN’20 will focus on the last years of Qaddafi with simulating the protests of the public against Gaddafi and the times of the civil war in Libya in the Cabinet of Gaddafi. Participants will focus on the political, social, economic and military situations according to crises that will be given during the sessions. With this committee, SOBILMUN will allow participants to decide that year, 2011, will be the downfall of this political personage or his rise from the ashes.
